Celebrating Sara

One of my blogging buddies is having a celebratory giveaway.  She just got married and is ready to celebrate her birthday, too.

She has had many days of giveaways and it's not too late to enter any of them.  There are some amazing prizes.  I'm a part of the Day 5 giveaway and the lucky winner will receive one of my newest math packs: Park It! (Place Value Centers, Games, and Practice Pages).

Head on over to Sara's blog to learn more about her giveaway and enter to win.

Power Outage

Tonight I'm taking my cue from Remy Charlip's book Fortunately:

Fortunately, I had some great plans for science this afternoon (okay, we were going to watch a weather video clip).

Unfortunately, someone near the school was cutting trees too close to the power lines.  The power went out just after 1:00.

Fortunately, the lights in my classroom only flickered and came right back on whereas other classrooms were dark or only had 1 light on.

Unfortunately, my classroom went completely dark about 1:45 and we still had 2 hours left in our school day.

Fortunately, my kids go to recess at 2:00 followed by activity at 2:20.

Unfortunately, the power did not come back on in time for my students to return to class at 3:00.

Fortunately, my kids love being read to.

Unfortunately, they had just come from Library where that was also the back-up plan.

Fortunately, the students weren't little turkeys while they packed up and listened to yet another read aloud.  So, we got to play four corners for the last 10 minutes of the day.

Unfortunately, I live close to the school which means the power was out at my house, too.

Fortunately, I was able to get in the house and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Unfortunately, the power remained out until about 6:00.

Fortunately, my daughter came home in a great mood and we were able to enjoy some quality time doing puzzles, singing songs, playing superheroes, and we even managed to have a dance party.  Now I'm ready to crash for the night!!

Slam Dunk Math

Anyone out there have time to preview a file for me?  The file focuses on 2-digit addition and subtraction.  It's just under 20 pages.  I need someone to look over the math for me and make sure I haven't made any errors.  You will get the completed file as a thank you :)

Let's Go Fly a Kite

Okay, I admit I've had a BIG case of the blogger blahs lately.  Yes, my last post was March 16th.  That was over a month ago.  Whoops!  Well, I'm back because I finally have something I'm excited about to share.  We started one of my favorite units after spring break - Air & Weather.  We have been busy filling our science notebooks with new learning and scientific vocabulary.  I've also been trying to incorporate our studies into reading and art.  Here is an art project the kids managed to complete today with the help of some parent volunteers.

Materials: white cardstock paper, chalk in shades of blue, purple, and green, cotton balls, glue, scrapbook paper, sharpie
